What is the UAPB 1890 HBCU Leadership Development Academy?

The UAPB 1890 HBCU Leadership Development Academy is the University’s comprehensive leadership development framework designed to cultivate current and future leaders while supporting UAPB’s mission as Arkansas’s public 1890 land-grant institution.

Who is eligible to participate?
Eligibility depends on the Academy tier:
  • Tier I is for selected emerging and aspiring leaders.
  • Tier II is open to all UAPB employees.
  • Tier III is required for UAPB employees with supervisory responsibilities.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. Participation is provided as a professional development opportunity
for eligible UAPB employees.

 

Is participation voluntary?
It depends on the tier.
  • Tier I is voluntary and competitive.
  • Tier II is voluntary.
  • Tier III is mandatory for UAPB supervisors.
Tier I – Executive Leadership Fellows Program FAQs
Who should apply?
Faculty and staff who aspire to leadership roles such as department chair, director, dean, vice chancellor, vice president, or other executive positions.
How are Fellows selected?

Participants are selected through a competitive application process that
includes
an application, supporting documents, and review by the Selection Committee, with final approval by the Chancellor or his designee.

How many Fellows will be selected?
The number of Fellows will be determined annually based on program
capacity and institutional priorities.
How long is the program?
The Executive Leadership Fellows Program is designed as a year-long cohort experience.
Will Fellows receive a certificate?
Yes. Fellows who successfully complete all program requirements will receive recognition from the University.

 

What is expected of Fellows?
Participants are expected to attend all sessions, complete
assigned activities, participate in mentoring and executive shadowing opportunities, and complete a capstone project.
Tier II – Chancellor's ELiTE Professional Series FAQs
Who can attend?
The Chancellor’s ELiTE Professional Series is open to all UAPB
faculty and staff.

 

Do I need to apply?
No. There is no application process.

 

How do I participate?
Employees simply attend the scheduled ELiTE sessions coordinated
through the Chancellor’s Office.

 

Can I attend only certain sessions?
Yes. Employees may participate in sessions that align with their professional interests and schedules.

 

Will I receive professional development credit?
Yes. Participants may receive certificates or documentation of
participation, as applicable.
Tier III – Required Supervisor Professional Development FAQs
Who is required to participate?
All UAPB employees with supervisory responsibilities.

 

Do I need to register?
No. Supervisors will be identified and enrolled through the
Office of Human Resources.

 

Why is this training required?
The program ensures all supervisors receive consistent training on
leadership, employment practices, University policies, compliance,
and effective supervision.

 

What if I become a supervisor during the year?
Human Resources will coordinate your enrollment in the next available supervisor training.

 

Is this training required every year?
Some modules may be required annually, while others may be
completed as part of onboarding or professional development.
Human Resources will communicate specific requirements.
Program Logistics FAQs
When will the Academy begin?

The Academy is expected to launch during the 2026–2027 academic year.

Where will sessions be held?
Sessions may be offered in person, virtually, or in a hybrid format,
depending on the program.

 

Will attendance be tracked?
Yes. Attendance and participation will be tracked for each Academy tier.

 

How will I know about upcoming sessions?
Program information, schedules, announcements, and updates will
be available on the Academy website, campus bulletin, and
distributed through Academy communications.

 

Who should I contact if I have questions?
A dedicated Academy email address will serve as the primary point
of contact for questions regarding applications, program schedules,
and general information.
