Dr. Mary Brentley

Dr. Mary Brentley is the esteemed Director and Assistant Professor of Basic Academic Services. In her multifaceted role, she is dedicated to providing foundational academic support to students, ensuring they have the tools and resources necessary to succeed in their educational endeavors.

As the Director of Basic Academic Services, Dr. Brentley oversees the administration of programs designed to enhance students’ academic skills and performance. She leads a team of dedicated professionals in developing and implementing initiatives that support student learning, retention, and success. Her leadership is characterized by a strategic vision aimed at improving academic services and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Our services provide support to over 1,000 new & transfer students each academic year.

Freshmen-focused Activities

Each semester, BAS conducts the following freshman-centered activities:
plans and implements a series of orientation activities;
provides registration advising to freshmen (students with less than 30 semester hours);
provides follow-up advising and counseling to freshmen.

Hands-on Advising

To help students navigate their first-year, all freshmen (students with less than 30 semester credit hours) are assigned an academic advisor from the Basic Academic Services unit.
