Early Alert Program
Welcome to the UAPB Early Alert Program. Our mission is to foster a culture of “Connection Before Correction.” We believe that the strongest foundation for student retention is the direct relationship between faculty and students.
The Early Alert system serves as a collaborative safety net, enabling faculty to identify and support students facing academic or personal challenges. By intervening early—starting with a personal conversation and, when needed, followed by a formal alert, when needed—we work together to ensure every Golden Lion has a clear path to graduation.
The “Connection First” Checklist
Before submitting an Early Alert, please complete these three steps to build a bridge with your student:
- Direct Outreach: Have you attempted to contact the student via their UAPB email or spoken with them privately before or after class?
- Specific Feedback: Have you clearly identified the “why” behind your concern (e.g., “You missed the last three assignments” vs. “You are failing”)?
- The “Success” Invitation: Have you invited the student to office hours or suggested a specific time to meet and create a plan?
If you have completed these steps and the student has not responded or performance has not improved within 48 hours, please proceed to submit an Early Alert via Watermark SSE.

| Week 8 | Midterm Grades | Danger of failing: D/F Warnings |
| Week 10 | Finishing Viability | Can the student pass the course? What steps should the student take? |
