The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff proudly welcomes Dr. Sonja M. Brown as its new Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
An accomplished higher education leader with more than two decades of experience, Dr. Brown brings a distinguished background in academic administration, faculty development, institutional effectiveness, and student success. Her leadership experience spans public universities and international higher education institutions, where she has helped strengthen academic programs, advance strategic initiatives, and create opportunities for students and faculty.
As UAPB continues its pursuit of excellence as a leading 1890 land-grant institution, Dr. Brown will play a vital role in advancing the university’s academic mission, strengthening student outcomes, and supporting innovation across the institution.
Dr. Brown’s official start date will be January 4, 2027.

Dr. Sonja M. Brown is an accomplished higher education leader with more than two decades of experience in academic administration, faculty development, institutional effectiveness, and student success.
Her leadership experience spans public universities and international higher education institutions, including Fayetteville State University, Great Basin College, and American University in the Emirates, where she has helped strengthen academic programs, advance strategic initiatives, and create opportunities for students and faculty.
Dr. Brown is recognized for her commitment to student success, academic innovation, and collaborative leadership. She brings a passion for creating inclusive learning environments, expanding opportunities for all students, and building strong partnerships that support institutional growth.
