Mane Materials

About Mane Materials

Through this program, required digital and physical materials are coordinated in advance and delivered via a streamlined, consistent process each term. Mane Materials supports instructional continuity, student preparedness, and strong coordination between faculty, campus leadership, and the UAPB campus bookstore.

Students receive the materials selected by their instructors in the format required for the course, helping ensure they begin the term ready to engage with course content.

Mane Materials supports the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s goals to:
  • Ensure students begin the term prepared with their required materials
  • Support faculty in starting instruction on the first day of class
  • Create a clear, consistent process for accessing course materials each term
  • Provide predictable program pricing so students can plan ahead
  • Strengthen coordination between academic and operational teams across campus

This program reflects our commitment to readiness, clarity, and a simplified course materials experience for students and faculty.

How the Program Works

Once a student registers for courses, required course materials are identified based on faculty adoptions.

DIGITAL MATERIALS

Digital materials are delivered directly in Blackboard, where students can access their online materials and use tools such as highlighting, note-taking, and search.

PHYSICAL MATERIALS

Physical materials are prepared by the campus store for in-store pickup. Physical materials may be kept at the end of the term, depending on the campus program structure.

Follett, our campus store partner, works on behalf of UAPB to coordinate the sourcing and delivery of required materials so students receive the correct adopted materials in the correct format by the first day of class.

Opt-Out Process

All students are automatically enrolled in Mane Materials; however, participation is optional—students may choose to opt out each term. The opt-out portal will open on Monday, August 10, 2026, and students will have until  Wednesday, August, 26, 2026,  to opt out for the fall 2026 semester.

To opt out:
  • Visit the Mane Materials portal:
  • You will receive a welcome email with instructions on how to access the portal.
  • Log in using your UAPB.edu email address and set up a password to access your account.
  • Follow the steps in the portal to complete your opt-out selection.
  • Please note that the portal will not be accessible prior to Monday, August 10, 2026.

Students who opt out will not be charged the program fee but will be responsible for obtaining their course materials independently.

For step-by-step guidance, https://support.follett.com/hc/en-us/articles/33300390862612-How-Do-I-Opt-Out.

Information for Faculty

Faculty maintain full academic freedom in selecting course materials. They continue to choose the required texts, formats, editions, and providers that best support their courses, including open educational resources.

This coordinated approach ensures that students have access to all adopted materials by the first day of class, allowing instruction to begin immediately and consistently across courses.

The program is designed to support both students and faculty by:

  • Ensuring students receive the correct adopted materials
  • Supporting consistent first-day readiness
  • Coordinating delivery logistics

Faculty are supported through structured communication and ongoing collaboration. This includes:

  • Adoption deadline reminders
  • Clear communication timelines
  • Coordination support from campus leadership and the store team
  • Assistance integrating digital materials into Blackboard
  • Ongoing partnership support to ensure materials are delivered as expected

Participation instructions and reminders are sent to the student’s campus email each term.

What are the benefits for students?

Mane Materials is built around five core student priorities:

Choice—You decide what works for you.

  • Students are automatically enrolled for convenience and may choose to stay in the program or opt out each term; no pressure, no penalty.

Prepared—Start the term with everything you need.

  • Required course materials are available by the first day of class, so students can focus on learning rather than searching or shopping for materials.

Consistent—A clear, reliable process each term.

  • All participating students receive their required course materials for the same program price, regardless of major.

Predictable—Clear program pricing. No surprise costs.

  • All required course materials are included in a single, consistent program price , so students can budget with confidence.

Convenient—Access built into your day.

Each term follows a streamlined process:

  • Digital materials are delivered directly in Blackboard.
  • Physical materials are prepared by the campus store as needed.
Will students save money?

Students may experience cost benefits through Mane Materials as a result of the campus store’s publisher relationships and coordinated sourcing approach.

More importantly, the program provides transparent and predictable pricing each term. All required course materials are included in a clearly communicated program charge, helping students plan ahead and budget with confidence.

By simplifying the process and consolidating required materials into a single coordinated experience, the program also reduces the need to search across multiple platforms and ensures students can easily access and manage their materials regardless of format.

What types of materials are included?

Only materials identified by faculty as required are included in the program.

Materials may include:

  • Digital textbooks
  • Courseware and access codes
  • Physical textbooks
  • Lab manuals or workbooks

Recommended or optional materials are not included but may be purchased separately through the campus store.

What is the difference between "required" and "recommended materials?

Required: Necessary to fully participate in the course.

Recommended/Optional: Suggested by the instructor to support learning, but not mandatory.

Only required materials are included in the program.

Does this affect faculty textbook selection or academic freedom?

No. Faculty retain full academic freedom and continue selecting the required materials, formats, editions, and providers that best support their courses, including open educational resources.

This coordinated approach ensures that students have access to adopted materials by the first day of class, allowing instruction to begin immediately.

The program supports faculty by:

  • Ensuring students receive the correct adopted materials
  • Supporting consistent first-day readiness
  • Coordinating delivery logistics
How do students access digital materials?

Digital materials are delivered directly in Blackboard via My Materials.
Students will receive email communications from shop@em.follett.com with access details and instructions.

For technical support, students may contact 0216mgr@follett.com or visit Follett Support.

How do students receive physical materials?

If a course requires physical materials:

  • In-Store Pickup
    • Students will receive an email when materials are ready for pickup
    • Students must show their Student ID when picking up materials
  • Shipping
    • Shipping is available for course materials
    • Students will receive email notifications regarding shipment delivery
Do students keep their materials at the end of the term?

Physical materials may be kept by the student at the end of the term and do not need to be returned. Digital materials remain accessible for at least 180 days, depending on the publisher’s terms.

How are students and faculty notified?

Students and faculty receive email communications to their campus email address, including:

  • Program introduction
  • Participation instructions (if applicable)
  • Deadlines
  • Access details
  • Pickup notifications

All communications are sent to the official campus email account.
Common subject lines may include:

  • Important Information Regarding Your Course Materials for the Upcoming Term
  • Welcome to Mane Materials. Your Order is Ready for Pick-Up
How is the program charged?

The program charge appears on your student bill and is listed in your Workday student account.

If a student opts out or back into the program before the deadline, the charge will be removed or refunded in accordance with campus policy.

The Mane Materials fee will appear on Fall 2026 billing statements.  Pricing is structured based on enrollment status for the fall and spring semesters:

  • $33.50 per credit hour up to 15 credit hours per term

Beginning in Summer 2027, summer rates will be:
