Welcome to the Department of Multimedia Communication (DMMC)
The Multimedia Communication (MMC) program aims to assist students in understanding the process of communication and the practice of the dramatic arts, including fundamental concepts and their application through effective communication and artistry. The program emphasizes theory, methodology and art. It seeks to develop aesthetic awareness and dynamic interaction among students, to encourage response to humanistic values inherent in literature and art and to enhance the quality of student creativity. Students are allowed to learn about themselves and their relationship with others in a social system as they develop analytical thinking, disciplined curiosity, motivation, and professional skills.
Our Mission
The primary mission of the DMMC at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is to prepare the next generation of practitioners in mass communications. To this end, we offer a Bachelor of Arts degree with emphasis in the following options: Public Relations, Multimedia News, and Multimedia Production (Broadcast News or Broadcast Production). In addition, students gain practical experience in our television studio, KUAP 89.7 – the campus radio station, or by working for the Arkansawyer, the student newspaper. The department also maintains a high-quality faculty that demonstrates excellence in both the classroom and in creative and scholarly pursuits. The department provides optimal facilities and resources that support a dynamic learning environment, presenting itself as an extension of its teaching mission through educational initiatives and portfolio development.
