Accreditation

The department is currently working toward gaining accreditation by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism & Mass Communications for our undergraduate programs in journalism and radio-television. Only 109 schools in the U.S. are accredited by ACEJMC.

Faculty

Our faculty bring years of media experience to the university and work with students in “real world” applications. The facilities are state-of-the-art, and we strive to keep our equipment and facilities on par with those found in the media and communication industries.

Experience

Students in UAPB’s Multimedia Communication program gain a strong, hands-on learning experience that prepares them for real-world media careers. They create content for campus outlets, cover major events, and build practical skills in storytelling, digital production, and communication strategy. The program also offers valuable networking through active connections with successful alumni in journalism, public relations, broadcasting, and digital media—providing mentorship, internships, and clear pathways into the industry.

 

 

Hands-on Experience

 

Multimedia Communication students can acquire hands-on experience using advanced multimedia equipment to create, produce, and edit their own newscasts and podcasts which are aired on the department’s YouTube Channel.

Media Events

 

The department hosts events such as Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Day and Mass Communications Week to bring seasoned media professionals to the campus to share their experiences with students and provide guidance on how to succeed in the field.

The UAPB-TV station is a student-run news organization focused on producing innovators and leaders in journalism. Working at the UAPB-TV whether as a producer or director for the student newscast provides experience in all areas of the news media, and builds the multimedia skills necessary to tell stories on every platform.
UAPB-TV offers students opportunities to work in podcasting, write for the student newspaper, and to work in content creation.

Our Programs

MULTIMEDIA NEWS

The Multimedia News Option prepares students to work as journalists and news practitioners who generate, research, write, and produce newsworthy content for print and online media. Students who complete the program will be prepared to work for newspapers, magazines and online media.

MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION - BROADCAST NEWS

The Multimedia Production – Broadcast News Option prepares students to work in the areas of broadcast journalism. This includes radio, television and online media. Student who complete the program will have the skills needed to prepare broadcast news copy, work behind the scenes and create other types of broadcast programming.

MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION - BROADCAST PRODUCTION

The Multimedia Production – Broadcast Production Option is designed to give students a solid foundation in the technical aspects and techniques used in producing television, radio and Internet content. Students will learn basic equipment operation, editing, production and on air news stage.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Public Relations Option prepares students seeking careers as communications or media specialists in profit and/or non-profit organizations. Students will learn to build and maintain good relationships, public understanding and reputations for various types of organizations. The degree is ideal for those with strong communication skills and who can work in various problem-solving situations under pressure as a team player. The option also prepares students for graduate study in public relations and related fields.
