At DMMC, you’ll step into the real world of communication and storytelling—whether through news, digital media, film, or performance. The primary mission of the DMMC at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is to prepare the next generation of practitioners in mass communications. To this end, we offer a Bachelor of Arts degree with emphasis in the following options: Public Relations, Multimedia News, and Multimedia Production (Broadcast News or Broadcast Production). In addition, students gain practical experience in our television studio, KUAP 89.7 – the campus radio station, or by working for the Arkansawyer, the student newspaper. The department also maintains a high-quality faculty that demonstrates excellence in both the classroom and in creative and scholarly pursuits. The department provides optimal facilities and resources that support a dynamic learning environment, presenting itself as an extension of its teaching mission through educational initiatives and portfolio development.
Within the context of its Mission Statement, the DMMC has developed the following goals to guide the program. These goals aim to ensure that students acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to function effectively and successfully in all facets of modern journalism, mass communication, and related fields.
Develop in students good oral and written communication skills necessary to the profession.
Develop in students at least one area of specialty and instill in them the importance of the convergence of the multiple regions in mass communications.
Develop in students the ability to collaborate with specialists in other fields to produce informative, analytical, and critical reporting on issues.
Cultivate in students an understanding of the historical, cultural, and moral contexts in which they apply their knowledge and skills.

Degree Options
The Department of Multimedia Communication (DMMC) offers curricula leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with options in Multimedia News, Multimedia Production, Public Relations, and Minor in Mass Communication. Each of these options prepares students for careers in newspapers, television, radio stations, governmental and educational organizations, major corporations, other media industries, and much more. The options also prepare students for graduate study.
