Greetings from the Sociology Program Coordinator
As Coordinator of the Sociology Program, I am pleased to welcome you to our website and thank you for your virtual visit. I hope that you will also visit us in person at our suite of offices on the second floor of Dawson-Hicks Hall.
We currently offer both an undergraduate major and a minor in Sociology. We have an excellent undergraduate program, designed to prepare our students to understand and analyze how events and individuals shape and are shaped by social forces. We are committed to providing an outstanding education to students and to helping them become lifelong learners and thinkers.
Over the past year or so we have made some changes to help make the educational experience of our majors more enjoyable and fulfilling. First, the number of credit hours required to graduate with a degree in Sociology has been decreased from 124 to 120 hours. Second, more options are made available to majors to satisfy the degree requirements, including the new course Sociology of Sport (SOCI 3390). Finally, a variety of courses are taught online as well as face-to-face, offering students greater flexibility for completing course assignments while maintaining a high level of educational quality.
The program also has a Sociology Club that engages in a variety of activities in the local community, and often attends the annual meeting of the Arkansas Sociological & Anthropological Association (ASAA). Efforts are underway to establish a local chapter of the United Chapters of Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society.
Please feel free to contact us if we can provide more information about our program, its activities, or how the program may be related to your interests.
I look forward to meeting you!
Best,
Dr. John D. Foster
