Welcome to the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science!
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to helping students achieve their academic and professional goals through rigorous instruction, mentorship, and hands-on learning opportunities.
The MCS Department offers a range of academic programs designed to prepare students for success in today’s rapidly evolving, technology-driven workforce. Our programs include:
- Dual Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science (Requires a combination of Core CS and Math Courses; for more information, contact Dr. Branch)
These programs equip students with strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills that are highly valued across industries.
The department currently serves approximately 100 undergraduate majors and a growing population of graduate students pursuing the Master of Science in Computer Science and Technology. In addition, the MCS Department plays a critical role in supporting the broader university community by offering essential upper-level mathematics courses for students across STEM and non-STEM disciplines, including Agricultural Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Nursing, Social Sciences, Accounting, and other fields.
Students completing degrees in our department are given job and internship opportunities with top Fortune 500 Companies, including Microsoft, Walmart, Amazon, Meta/Facebook, Apple, UnitedHealth Group, Intuit, and many government agencies, including the National Security Agency (NSA), Lockheed Martin, and the Department of Defense (DOD), etc.
As an alumnus of UAPB, I began my academic journey here by earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics before completing a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering. Following a distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Defense as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer and Radar Scientist, along with years of experience in education and teaching, I am honored to return to my alma mater to serve as Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
We invite you to explore our programs, connect with our faculty, and discover the opportunities available within the MCS Department. We would be honored to welcome you as part of our academic community and a proud member of the Lion Pride at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Dr. Eddie Branch, Ph.D.
