Conditional Admission

Candidates seeking admission to the M.A.T. program, but who fail to meet one or more of the following admission requirements:

• passing scores on all required parts of the Praxis Series,
• acquiring a provisional teaching license, and
• obtaining a letter of hire from an Arkansas school district.

Candidates may seek conditional admission to one of the other School of Education graduate programs and/or seek a delayed admission to the M.A.T. program once all of the admission requirements have been met.

Candidates granted conditional admission will not be given letters to school districts indicating that they have met admission requirements, enrolled in internships, or admitted to the M.A.T. Institute. Conditional admission only allows for candidates to begin studies on other degree plans while they meet admission requirements to the M.A.T. program. Candidates admitted conditionally may take up to twelve (12) hours of graduate level course work and must earn a grade point average of at least 3.00 during that period.

Admission Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • two transcripts from all institutions of higher education that have been attended
  • undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 (or 3.00 in the last 60 hours)
• An application for admission
• A letter of interest AND resume
• Two letters of recommendation from former professors and/or employers
• Interview/Disposition Assessment I
• Acceptance in a department supported by an approved degree plan

Conditional Admission

Conditional admission may be granted to advanced candidates who have not satisfied all admission requirements. Candidates admitted conditionally must earn a grade point average of at least 3.00 during their first twelve (12) hours of course work and complete all admission criteria to continue in the program.

Admission to Degree Candidacy

Once candidates have gained regular (unconditional admission) and obtained twelve (12) hours toward their degree programs, they must also apply for admission to degree candidacy.

For Candidates Holding an Initial/Standard Arkansas Teacher’s License

• Regular (unconditional) admission status in a Master of Education degree program
• Twelve (12) graduate level hours toward specified degree with minimum of 3.0 GPA
• An initial/ standard Arkansas Teaching License
• Interview/Disposition Assessment II

For Candidates Seeking an Initial Arkansas Teacher’s License

• Passing Praxis Core scores in reading, writing and mathematics
• Application to the School of Education
• All three parts of Praxis Core must be passed to complete more than 12 Graduate hours in the program.
• Completion of all regular admission requirements
• Twelve (12) graduate level hours toward specified degree with minimum of 3.0 GPA
• Interview/Disposition Assessment II

All admission decisions are recommended by the Graduate Programs for approval by the School’s Admission, Retention, and Exit Committee.

Regular (Unconditional) Admission Requirements

ALL APPLICATIONS ARE DUE JUNE 1ST.

1. Have a baccalaureate degree and an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.5 or higher
2. Submit, from each college or university attended, official transcripts, mailed directly from the Registrar’s Office. Personal copies are unacceptable.
3. Submit Quantitative, Verbal, and Analytical scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the past five (5) academic years.
4. Submit (International Students Only) scores of 550 (paper-based version) or above or scores of 213 (computer version) or above on the Test of Written English as a Foreign Language, unless the applicant’s Native language is English, or the applicant has received a baccalaureate or graduate degree from an accredited U.S. institution of higher education. The TEOFL must have been taken within the past two (2) academic years.
5. Submit a 500 – 700 word essay which explains why the applicant is interested in pursuing the Master of Science Degree in Addiction Studies and how the degree will impact his or her life.
6. Submit three (3) letters of recommendation (one from a former professor, if possible) that include references to the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses as a professional in the field of addiction.
7. Complete an interview with the Program Director and/or the Graduate Admissions Committee.
8. Complete on-site at the university a three (3) paragraph writing sample which addresses a current addiction-related or other health-related issue.
9. Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae.
10. Submit a completed Master of Science Degree in Addiction Studies application.
11. Submit a completed Graduate Admissions application.
12. Enroll in only one graduate degree program at a time.
13. Submit a copy of his or her immunization record.

Transfer Credit

Applicants may transfer a maximum of nine (9) relevant hours of graduate credit from other regionally accredited institutions offering graduate programs. Transfer credits applied toward program requirements must be approved by the Graduate Admissions Committee, where decisions are final. Students wishing to transfer credit must submit official transcripts and other appropriate course identification information directly to the Office of Addiction Studies. Students transferring to the University will be required to complete at least twenty-seven hours of graduate level course work within the curriculum at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff prior to graduation.

Financial Assistance

After being accepted into the Addiction Studies Program as a regularly admitted student, a student may apply for financial assistance; pending the availability of funds offered through the program.

*Funding for the program and financial assistance is provided by the Arkansas master tobacco settlement fund and the Arkansas department of health, tobacco prevention and cessation program. Requirements for Admission

An applicant for admission to the Master of Science program in Computer Science & Technology is expected to have earned a B.S. degree from an approved program (i.e. Computer Science, Information Technology/Science, Industrial Engineering and Industrial Technology), or its equivalent.

Admission Standards

The basic admission standards are the same as those for other graduate programs at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Specifically, these include: an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or 2.70 on a 4.00 scale and additional GRE score of 306 (overall points), and three letters of recommendation from faculty familiar with the academic ability of the applicant. International students must score at least 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Provisional Admission

Students who do not meet the minimum admission requirements or whose potential for success is not evident from their application may be considered for provisional admission. These students will be reclassified to full standing once they satisfy the conditions specified above.

Transfer applicants with less than 30 semester hours of college credit must submit ACT or SAT scores and transcripts from all colleges/universities attended

Admission Requirements and Student Classification

No student will be admitted under any condition unless a faculty member agrees to serve as the student’s advisor. During the application process, the applicant indicates a preferred area of specialization that is referred to the appropriate faculty member for review. This requirement ensures that adequate research facilities and funding will be available upon admission for the student’s thesis work.

Regular Admission

To be admitted as a regular student applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree in a natural science field from an accredited institution and have scored above 550 on the TOEFL (for international students). Applicants must have scored at least 900 on the GRE (Quantitative & Verbal) with a grade point average during the Junior and Senior years of 3.5 or better, or have scored at least 1000 on the GRE with a grade point average during the Junior and Senior years of 3.0 or better.

Provisional Admission

Applicants who meet the GRE and grade point average requirements but have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in a non-natural science field may be accepted as a provisional student. Provisional students must make up deficiencies through undergraduate course work that will not count for credit toward a degree. The graduate coordinator, the student’s advisor, and the department chair will determine the specific course work.

Conditional Admission

Students with a baccalaureate degree in a natural science field from an accredited institution who do not meet the GRE and/or grade point average requirements may be accepted as a conditional student. Conditional acceptance is granted only at the chair’s discretion and is usually reserved for individuals with extensive work experience in the field. Conditional students must earn a GPA of 3.0 or better during their first semester to continue in the program.

Admission Process

Prospective students must submit a complete set of application materials to the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries. All correspondence regarding admission should be directed to the Aquaculture and Fisheries Graduate Coordinator. Below you will find a list of the application materials needed:

International applicants who hold degrees or diplomas in a related subject from postsecondary institutions in English-speaking countries (e.g. the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand) or who have successfully completed at least a two-year course of study in which English was the language of instruction are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Application Deadlines

The application deadline for admission to the Master of Science degree program for Fall Semester is June 20. The application deadline for admission to the program for Spring Semester is November 10.

The UAPB M.Ed. in Vocational Rehabilitation program will be committed to admitting students a competitive basis and is designed for those education professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally/nationally accredited university or college. The degree program requires the following of all applicants for admission to the M.Ed. in Rehabilitation degree program:

• In addition to the College’s minimum requirements for admission and those listed below, all applicants are expected to submit a School of Education, Graduate Application
• A baccalaureate degree with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 from last 60 hours of undergraduate program or 3.0 from a graduate program.
• GRE scores if the grade point average above is not satisfied.
• A 1200-1500 personal statement indicating the applicant’s aspirations and reasons for pursuing the M.Ed. in Vocational Rehabilitation degree at UAPB.
• Three letters of recommendation from professional references (i.e., superintendent, principal) that attest to the candidate’s professional and/or personal qualities.
• A CV or professional resume
• Satisfactory completion of an interview made up of university faculty.

A complete application includes the following:

• Application for Admission to the Graduate Master of Business Administration Program

• A 300-500 word statement of purpose that reflects any of the areas of specialization
• Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (minimum 2.7 GPA required)

• Official GRE score of 290 (verbal + quantitative)
• Official TOEFL score (international applicants only) of 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test)
• All potential students will be interviewed for admission into the program
